There are so many talented photographers in the Dallas area. It makes it hard to find the perfect photographer for your family or maternity portraits. It can be overwhelming, especially if you don't know what to look for or what to ask. I'm helping you out and giving you 5 tips to help find a great photographer.
A pre-session consultation is important because it allows you to get to know your photographer better. It is so important that you connect with the person that you are trusting to capture these memories for your family. It's much easier to warm up in front of the camera once you have established a connection with your photographer. Our consultation also provides an opportunity for you to let us know your expectations for the session and to plan. We can nail down location, specific shots that you want, whether you want to hang your images or create a beautiful album, and discuss your outfit ideas.
While price should not be the most important factor in finding a photographer, it should still be considered. Have a budget in mind and look for those within that range. Not all photographers pricing structures are setup the same. Some offer all-inclusive packages. With this option, you pay one fee and it includes a certain number of digital images or prints. Some - like Amber Balous Photography - separate the session fee and product cost The session fee covers the time and talent of the photographer. All prints or digital images are then purchased separately during an in person viewing and ordering session.
Often times, photographers post their best work or favorite shots as sneak peeks. Asking to see a full gallery, though, ensures that there is consistency between what is on their website and what is delivered to clients. Seeing a full gallery will also give you a better idea of that photographer's style. There are so many different ways to pose and process images. Viewing full galleries will help ensure that you like this photographer's style.
Professional photographers should have insurance. Insurance provides liability protection in case any accidents occur. While it is not a requirement for most portrait photographers, it is a very good idea to have it.
Most people have family portraits taken once or twice a year and will gladly give you names of photographers that they have a good experience with. I can't tell you how many new clients have been referred to me from previous clients. Word of mouth is the best compliment you could give me!
I would love to setup a time to chat about your future session and get to know you! Please email amber@amberbalous.com with any questions.
